Ingredients

Scale

1.5 lbs Halal Certified Ground Beef
1 tbsp Olive Oil
1 large Yellow Onio
1 large Green Bell Pepper
1 large Red Bell Pepper
8 oz Mushrooms
1 tsp Garlic Powder
1 tsp Onion Powder
0.5 tsp Smoked Paprika
1 tsp Salt
0.5 tsp Black Pepper
0.25 cup Halal Beef Broth
1 tbsp Tamari (Halal Soy Sauce)
8 slices Provolone Cheese
2 tbsp Fresh Parsley

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Veggies: Start by thinly slicing your yellow onion, green and red bell peppers, and mushrooms (if using). This ensures they cook evenly and quickly for your Philly Cheesesteak Skillet
  2. Sauté Aromatics: Heat the olive oil in a large, oven-safe skillet (cast iron works great!) over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Sauté for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are softened and lightly caramelized. Remove the cooked vegetables from the skillet and set them aside
  3. Brown the Beef: Add the halal certified ground beef to the same skillet. Break it up with a spoon and cook until it is fully browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the skillet
  4. Season the Beef: Return the cooked vegetables to the skillet with the beef. Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes, stirring to combine all the flavors for your delicious Philly Cheesesteak Skillet
  5. Add Liquids: Pour in the halal beef broth and tamari. Stir well, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the liquid reduces slightly
  6. Cheese Time: Create a few wells or mounds in the beef mixture and lay the provolone slices (or sprinkle shredded cheese) over the entire skillet. Cover the skillet with a lid or transfer it to a preheated oven (if your skillet is oven-safe) at 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly
  7. Serve & Garnish: Carefully remove the Philly Cheesesteak Skillet from the heat or oven. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley if desired. Serve hot and enjoy your homemade Philly Cheesesteak Skillet!

Notes

Don't Overcrowd the Pan: When sautéing the vegetables, use a large enough skillet to prevent steaming and encourage caramelization. Cook in batches if necessary.

High Heat for Searing: Use medium-high heat for both vegetables and beef to achieve a nice sear and char, key for authentic cheesesteak flavor.

Drain Excess Fat: Drain fat after browning ground beef to prevent greasiness and allow other flavors to shine.

Taste and Adjust: Always taste your mixture before adding the cheese and adjust seasonings as needed.

Quality Cheese Matters: Good quality provolone or mozzarella elevates the gooey factor and authenticity.

Oven Finish (Optional but Recommended): A quick finish in the oven for melting cheese creates a more evenly melted and bubbly topping.

Store any cooled leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

For best reheating, use a skillet over medium-low heat. A microwave is quicker but can make beef tough. Reheating in the oven (covered with foil) is also an option.
