Gel Food Coloring (various colors)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your cake pans
  2. Whisk together dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt
  3. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time
  5. Alternately add dry ingredients and milk, mixing until just combined
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract
  7. Divide batter among cake pans and bake for 18-22 minutes
  8. Cool the cakes completely on a wire rack
  9. Make the buttercream frosting
  10. Level the cakes with a serrated knife
  11. Apply a crumb coat of frosting, chill to set
