A sophisticated twist on the classic American staple, these halal-friendly cookies feature browned butter for a rich, toffee-like depth and a perfect balance of salty and sweet.

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup Unsalted Halal Butter
1 cup Brown Sugar
1/2 cup Granulated White Sugar
2 Large Eggs
2 teaspoons Non-alcoholic Vanilla Extract
2 1/4 cups All-Purpose Flour
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 teaspoon Sea Salt
1 1/2 cups Halal Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Instructions

  1. Place your unsalted halal butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat and melt completely. Continue whisking until it foams, develops brown bits, and smells nutty. Immediately transfer to a heat-proof bowl and cool for 15 minutes
  2. Add the brown sugar and granulated white sugar to the cooled brown butter. Whisk vigorously until smooth
  3. Add the room-temperature eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the non-alcoholic vanilla extract
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and sea salt. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula until just combined
  5. Gently fold in the halal chocolate chips
  6. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes to prevent over-spreading
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper
  8. Use a cookie scoop to form 2-tablespoon balls of dough. Place them 2 inches apart on the baking sheets
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Let sit on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely

Notes

Ensure eggs are at room temperature to prevent the browned butter from solidifying into clumps.

Do not skip the 30-minute chilling step; it is vital for the cookie's final texture.

For a gluten-free version, swap the flour for a 1:1 halal-certified gluten-free baking blend.

Sprinkle a tiny pinch of flaky sea salt over the cookies immediately after baking to enhance the chocolate flavor.

Dough can be prepared up to 72 hours in advance for improved flavor.
