These Air Fryer Parmesan Brussels Sprouts are a quick, healthy, and halal-friendly side dish that transforms a often-disliked vegetable into a kid-approved favorite. Featuring crispy outer leaves and tender centers, they are seasoned with savory spices, parmesan cheese, and finished with a bright lemon drizzle.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb Fresh Brussels Sprouts
2 tbsp Olive Oil
1/3 cup Halal Parmesan Cheese
1 tsp Garlic Powder
1/2 tsp Onion Powder
1/2 tsp Smoked Paprika
1/2 tsp Sea Salt
1/4 tsp Black Pepper
1 tbsp Lemon Juice

Instructions

  1. Prep the Sprouts: Start by washing the fresh Brussels sprouts under cold water. Pat them completely dry with a kitchen towel. Trim off the woody ends and slice each sprout in half vertically
  2. Season: In a large mixing bowl, combine the halved sprouts, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Toss everything together until each sprout has an even coating of oil and spices
  3. Preheat: Set your air fryer to 390°F (200°C)
  4. First Air Fry: Place the seasoned sprouts in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 10 minutes. At the 5-minute mark, pull the basket out and shake it well
  5. Add Cheese: After 10 minutes, open the basket. Sprinkle the finely grated halal parmesan cheese over the top of the sprouts. Toss gently with a spoon or tongs
  6. Final Crisp: Air fry for another 3 to 5 minutes. Watch them closely so the cheese turns golden brown but does not bur
  7. Finish: Remove the Brussels sprouts from the basket. Drizzle the fresh lemon juice over them while they are still piping hot

Notes

Always dry the vegetables thoroughly to ensure crispiness and prevent steaming.

Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket; cook in two batches if you have a smaller air fryer to allow proper air circulation.

Use finely grated cheese as it adheres better to the crevices of the sprouts.

Keep the loose leaves that fall off during trimming; they become incredibly crunchy 'sprout chips'.

Store leftover sprouts in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Do not freeze.

Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for about 3 to 4 minutes to restore crunchiness; avoid the microwave.

For variations, substitute parmesan with sharp halal cheddar or nutritional yeast. Use halal-certified tamari instead of lemon juice for umami, or add red chili flakes for heat. Toss in chopped halal-certified beef bacon bits or chicken for a protein boost, or swap olive oil for melted halal-certified butter for a richer taste.
