Ingredients

½ cup Unsalted butter (room temperature)
2 Large eggs (room temperature)
½ cup Whole milk (room temperature)
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
1 cup Unsalted butter (room temperature) for frosting
34 cups Powdered sugar (sifted)
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract for frosting
24 tablespoons Milk or heavy cream
Fresh berries (optional)
Sprinkles (optional)
Edible flowers (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your pans: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 6-inch round cake pans
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt
  3. Cream butter and eggs: In a large bowl, cream the butter until light and fluffy, then add eggs one at a time
  4. Alternate wet and dry: Gradually mix in dry ingredients alternately with the milk, ending with dry ingredients
  5. Divide and bake: Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes until a skewer comes out clea
  6. Cool completely: Let cakes cool in pans for 10-15 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely
  7. Make the buttercream frosting: Beat softened butter in a large bowl, gradually add sifted powdered sugar, then add vanilla and milk until desired consistency
  8. Assemble and frost: Level cake layers, layer with frosting in between, apply a crumb coat, chill for 15-20 minutes
  9. Final frosting and decorate: Frost the top and sides of the cake and decorate with berries, sprinkles or edible flowers

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results.

Always chill the cake after applying the crumb coat to set it properly.
