Ingredients

Scale

1 lb Ground Beef (80/20)
1/4 cup Soy Sauce (low sodium)
2 tbsp Brown Sugar (packed)
1 tbsp Sesame Oil
2 cloves Garlic (minced)
1 tsp Ginger (grated fresh)
1/2 tsp Red Pepper Flakes (or more to taste)
2 tbsp Water
23 Scallions (sliced, for garnish)
1 tsp Sesame Seeds (for garnish)
Cooked Rice (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Brown the Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and break it up with a spoon. Cook until thoroughly browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat
  2. Make the Sauce: While the beef cooks, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, red pepper flakes, and water in a small bowl. This is the heart of your delicious Korean ground beef bowl
  3. Combine & Simmer: Pour the sauce over the browned ground beef in the skillet. Stir well to coat all the meat. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly and the flavors to meld beautifully. This simple Korean beef bowl is almost ready!
  4. Serve: Remove from heat. Serve your delicious Korean Ground Beef Bowl immediately over hot cooked rice. Garnish generously with sliced scallions and sesame seeds. Enjoy your homemade beef bowl!

Notes

Drain the beef really well to prevent a greasy sauce.

Don't overcook the sauce; a brief simmer is all it needs to thicken and become glossy.

For an extra kick, add a dollop of gochujang (Korean chili paste) to the sauce.

Taste the sauce before adding it to the beef and adjust sweetness or spice as needed.

Leftovers can be stored for 3-4 days in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator (beef mixture and rice).

To reheat, gently warm the beef mixture in a skillet over medium heat or in the microwave until hot. Reheat the rice separately and combine just before serving.
