Ingredients
1 ¼ cups All-purpose flour
1 cup Granulated sugar
½ cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon Baking soda
½ teaspoon Baking powder
½ teaspoon Salt
2 Large eggs
½ cup Whole milk
¼ cup Vegetable oil
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
½ cup Boiling water
½ cup Unsalted butter
2 cups Powdered sugar
2–3 tablespoons Heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your cake pans
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients
- In another bowl, whisk the wet ingredients until smooth
- Combine wet and dry ingredients without overmixing
- Add boiling water to the batter and mix until smooth
- Fill prepared pans and bake for 20-25 minutes
- Cool cakes in pans then remove to cool completely
- Make the frosting by beating softened butter and gradually adding powdered sugar until smooth
- Assemble and frost the cooled cake layers
- Decorate as desired and serve
Notes
Use room temperature ingredients for best results.
Avoid overmixing to keep the cake light and fluffy.
